i prefer too early...

I adressed the whole early/late boyfriending or girlfriending thing towards the end of this post from 2003.

Happened to me twice this week.

Both times, one hour in.

I feel this is unacceptable behaviour from the so-called fairer sex.

Oh, I forgot to mention the worst part: both of these "boyfriends" were actually DUDES IN THE BAR AT THE TIME, which leads me to believe one of three things...

1.) These girls have some secure, cool boyfriends who don't mind their girlfriends having hour long drunken converations with dudes in bars while they sit alone.
2.) These girls have boyfriends who hate them and are hoping to pawn them off on some poor guy like me.
3.) At some point during the conversation these girls decided that I was SO creepy that they not only had to make up a boyfriend, but they had to make up a CURRENTLY IN THE ROOM boyfriend outta some random guy to save them from whatever horrible things they thought I may have been planning.

A couple of questions for Rob... Was "one hour in" too long for them to have waited? And you don't say whether or not you were actually hitting on them--how would you feel about it if you were actively trying to pick up and the person chose to wait until the bar was closing to let you know about the significant other?

Oh, my bad. I just read your 2003 entry. You're talking about people exposing their boyfriend/girlfriend status too soon...etc...

Luke, you analyze too much.

Hi 9:17AM... I crotch-blocked a guy who was "actively trying to pick up" by waiting til bar closing to boyfriend him. On behalf of girls not knowing the etiquette in these types of situations, I apologize and ask for advice - what would have been the most appropriate way to deal with said situation?

Hey Luker,
It's the shwecks here. (I hope you still remember me.) I'll refrain from making any lewd inside jokes about pinning or mangling that others might possibly be able to understand--or just in case your mom is reading this. I love your youtube cartoons, especially the ones of you taking it easy during the summer. A friend at home told me about the globe article, but I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy of it. Any idea where I might be able to read the article online?
I've got a little blog-thing too. http://www.mgkorea.blogspot.com
