i think i want a bike in fact in want a bike right now
the clear thing to do is buy a servicable probably stolen bike from one of the many downtown bike stores for $150 but since this clarity is standing between me and a kickass shiney impulse purchase bike we are going to have to do a little streching.
it looks somthing like this
daily subway average $4
daily taxi average $8
daily transportation expenses: ($8+$4)=$12
hmm that is a lot especially when you logically next look at...
monthly transportation expenses: ($8+$4)*(30)=$360
WOW who knew i was spending so much money to avoid having a bike esp when i could get a decent one for the cost of one months transit! i wonder what i spend in a year?
yearly transportation expenses: [($8+$4)*(30)]*(12)=$4,320
HOLY CRAP! plus even factoring in that i am constantly getting drunk and losing stuff i can still expect my bike to last at least two years so lets say that i have $8,640 in transportation costs minus a couple thousand wich are unaviodable (winter, going to bars etc) then I am stil looking at a....
$6000 dollar budget for my new bike.
In fact if I choose to skimp and only pay $3000 for my new bike then it would be like someone giving me a check for $3000 also and the whole point after all is to save money.
tune in next post as I describe my kick ass $2500 bike (i am budgeting $500 for one of those big chain locks and also for some cool cycling gloves and also for insurance. Helmet Budget: $0)

Do you have spandex shorts factored into your budget? Or, do you still have many pairs of spandex pants left over from your "running" days?
Wow, all your years of adolescence spent as a hardcore member of the MATH team has really paid off. Who knew?
