Yesterday I read A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley (sp?) and all I can say is DYSTOPIAN MY ASS!! BRING ON THE INTENSIVLY ENGINEERED FUTURE. I think Huxley might have been trying to suggest some kind of downside to the future world he presented but I will leave that to the PHDs

OK so you have all heard this before (most famously suggested by niel postman) but everybody makes a big deal about 1984 and big brother and stuff while meanwhile A Brave New World (writen is 1932 by the way) offers CHILLING "amusing ourselves to death" type parallells to our modern consumerist western society and nobody ever talks about it. you try to put one video suvielance camera at a stop light and everybody freaks out like big brother is right around the corner but the toronto sun can put mick jagger on the cover for 4 consecutive days (would have been 7 consecutive but they found a girl on the beach wearing a bikini on a hot day) and nobody cares.

also if you have read the book lately do you think SOMA is more like effidrine or delicous labatt 50?
